Are you looking for unique things to do in Haute-Savoie? This area in the east of France encompasses the Alps, Lake Geneva and Annecy. It is perfect for those looking to experience epic landscapes, crystal clear waters, picturesque Alpine towns and of course, exquisite cheeses. We took a trip to discover some of the regions’ more unusual activities, ideally suited to groups or return visitors.

Aiguille du Midi

For the thrill seekers, the Aiguille du Midi allows you to get as close to the summit of Mont Blanc as possible but, without any hiking. Think epic landscapes, breathtaking heights, year round snow and exhilarating cable car rides. At 3842m above sea level, this truly is an unforgettable experience. In addition to the outdoors, there are plenty of other things to see indoors. There is a mountaineering museum, glass box, hypoxia level and more. It is also a manageable day trip from both Geneva and Annecy.

Gorges du Fier

For those looking for a bit of an adventure, the Gorge du Fier offers a mild adrenaline rush just 10km outside of Annecy. The River Fier (which translates as proud), demonstrates a magnificent example of erosion and you can walk along the 25m high footbridge which follows along the side of the canyon. There are plenty of opportunities along the way to learn about the important geological features of the area. As you exit the canyon, the river becomes slow flowing and opens out into labyrinth of unique rock formations.

Chateau de Montrottier

Just a 5 minute drive from the Gorges du Fier stands an impressive medieval chateau dating back to the 13th century. You will be met by your engaging and knowledgeable guide who will walk you through the many eras the castle has lived through. There is a collection of thousands of objects with fascinating stories from weaponry to elaborate paintings. Outside there are sweeping valley views and grounds to explore. Their tours are offered in a number of different languages.

Jardins Secrets

A true delight, Jardins Secrets is situated in the hills between Lac d’Annecy and Lac du Bourget. Open from the beginning of April to the beginning of October these family owned and run gardens are influenced by the likes of Tunisia, India, Switzerland and Austria. As you wander the paths among the colourful flowers, look out for ornate mosaics, secret pools and handcrafted clay structures. For refreshments, enjoy a freshly made beignet alongside a refreshing mint tea.

Annecy Walking Tour and Boat Trip

Learn about the city of Annecy on a guided walking tour with a passionate and knowledgeable local guide. Known as the Venice of the Alps, you can expect pretty canals, medieval churches and of course, cobbled streets. There are also fantastic shopping opportunities. Look out for Pierre Gay which sells phenomenal local cheeses, Au Fidèle Berger for artisan chocolate and Chez Poustache for ice cream. Complete your tour with a boat cruise on the lake. They offer a unique view of the surrounding mountains as well as seeing the blue-green waters up close.

We look forward to working with you to create the perfect trip for your clients. Check out the full itinerary for this spectacular region of France.
